Collages

Collagists are drawn to the artifacts of time, and how these items connect to our lives. In the end, collage is really the art of listening to your materials.

Randell Plowman

As a collage artist, Ellen finds inspiration in dog-eared text books, tattered encyclopedias, damaged board games, and outdated scientific journals, along with old letters, postcards, photographs, and maps. She experiments with stripes and solids, shape and color, repetition, variation and unexpected juxtapositions. She mostly works in paper, but has also begun exploring digital and hybrid collage.

Below is a sampling of Ellen’s collage work. Please feel free to contact her with any questions.

For this project, Ellen began five separate 2-page spreads in five collage journals, starting with a background, then adding a second element to each, and moving forward from there.
